Los Cabos International Airport is committed to making every part of a journey through the terminals accessible and comfortable — for travelers with disabilities, reduced mobility, medical conditions, and other support needs.
One thing shapes everything below: assistance connected to your flight is arranged by your airline, not by the airport. Wheelchair service, boarding support, guided assistance and mobility-device handling are all the airline’s responsibility. The airport provides the accessible facilities you move through, and GAP BLUE, its own support programme. Both work best when you ask ahead.
Start With Your Airline
If you or someone in your party needs a wheelchair, guided assistance, boarding support, oxygen accommodations, or help traveling through the terminal, contact your airline as early as possible, ideally when you book. Confirm the request before you leave home, and again at the airline’s check-in counter when you arrive. View Airlines Serving SJD
What Your Airline Can Arrange
- Wheelchair service
- Travel between check-in, security, the gate, and the aircraft
- Boarding and leaving the aircraft, including stairs and boarding ramps
- Making a connection, and collecting checked baggage
- Traveling with a personal wheelchair or mobility scooter
- Transporting medical equipment or supplemental oxygen
- Assistance for passengers who are blind or have low vision
- Communication accommodations for passengers who are Deaf or hard of hearing
What to Tell Them
The more specific you are, the better the airline can prepare. Explain:
- Whether you can walk independently, and for what distance
- Whether you can use stairs, and whether you need help reaching your aircraft seat
- Whether your mobility device is manual or powered — and its dimensions, weight, and battery type
- Whether you are traveling with medical equipment or oxygen
- Whether you need guided or communication assistance
- Whether you are traveling with a service animal
- Any assistance needed during a connection or on arrival
Service availability, boarding procedures, mobility-device storage, and advance-notice requirements vary by airline and aircraft. If your trip involves more than one carrier, confirm with each of them.
Wheelchairs and Mobility Devices
SJD’s facilities accommodate passengers who use wheelchairs or have limited mobility, but wheelchair assistance itself is scheduled through your airline. Do not count on finding an unreserved wheelchair after you arrive. Booking ahead gives the airline time to assign an attendant and prepare for what you actually need.
On the Day You Travel
- Arrive with the additional time your airline recommends.
- Identify yourself at the airline’s check-in counter.
- Confirm what your request covers.
- Tell staff if your needs or mobility have changed.
- Keep your confirmation and mobility-device details to hand.
If you need help unexpectedly, speak to your airline’s representatives at the airport. Assistance may still be available — passengers with advance arrangements can simply be accommodated more quickly.
Bringing Your Own Wheelchair or Scooter
You can travel with a personal mobility device, subject to your airline’s safety, size, weight, battery, and aircraft-storage rules. Ask the airline:
- Whether you can use the device through the terminal, and where it must be checked
- Whether it can be returned to you at the aircraft door on arrival
- How removable parts should be packed, and how the battery must be identified or disconnected
- Whether the aircraft can take the device’s dimensions and weight
- What information should be attached to the device
Remove loose or easily damaged accessories where you can, label the device clearly, and carry written handling instructions — particularly for powered equipment.
GAP BLUE Passenger Assistance
Los Cabos International Airport is operated by Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacífico (GAP). GAP BLUE is its complimentary support programme for passengers with temporary or permanent disabilities, visible and non-visible.
What GAP BLUE Provides
Support can include advance guidance, airport orientation, support materials, and accompaniment by a Passenger Experience and Quality Assurance Agent. Planning resources may include a travel checklist, a passenger journey map, a visual or social story, and identification, support, educational or focus items from the GAP BLUE kit.
You can also request a familiarization visit up to seven days before a scheduled flight. Proof of upcoming travel is required, and both scheduling and the number of accompanying visitors depend on airport operations.
What GAP BLUE Does Not Replace
GAP BLUE complements what airlines, authorities and airport service providers already offer. It is not airline wheelchair service, medical care, supervision, or custodial assistance, and it is not a priority or skip-the-line programme. Children, older adults, and passengers who need continuous personal care must travel with an appropriate companion under their airline’s policies.
Sensory, Communication and Non-Visible Needs
Arrange interpretation or any other communication accommodation with your airline before you travel. GAP BLUE can offer additional guidance at the airport.
Blind and Low-Vision Travelers
Contact your airline in advance if you need guided assistance. Depending on your itinerary and what you request, that can cover the route between the terminal entrance and check-in, check-in and security, security and the gate, the gate and your seat, the aircraft and baggage claim, and connecting gates or terminals.
Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing Travelers
Tell your airline what you need for check-in, boarding, connections, delays, and emergency announcements. It also helps to:
- Turn on airline-app notifications and keep flight information visible on your phone
- Ask for written communication when you need it
- Confirm how boarding changes will be communicated to you
- Ask any airport or airline representative to repeat an announcement you could not hear
Non-Visible Disabilities
Not every disability or medical condition is visible. Passengers with autism, sensory sensitivities, PTSD, dementia, chronic illness, anxiety disorders, or other non-visible disabilities may need more time, clearer instructions, or help finding their way. GAP BLUE is the airport’s primary support resource here: requesting it 72 hours ahead gives staff time to coordinate and prepare any available kit materials.
Passengers or companions may also want to:
- Explain communication preferences in simple terms, or carry a written summary of important needs
- Use a visual schedule or social story before traveling
- Bring permitted sensory or comfort items
- Identify quieter waiting areas after arriving, and allow extra time for check-in and screening
Medical Equipment, Medication and Service Animals
Oxygen, Medication and Medical Devices
Airlines may restrict personal oxygen containers and certain battery-powered medical devices. Never arrive with oxygen equipment expecting it to be accepted without advance approval. Contact your airline about airline-approved oxygen services, portable oxygen concentrators, CPAP and respiratory equipment, refrigerated medication, syringes and injectable medication, batteries and charging, medical documentation, and the carry-on and checked-baggage rules that apply.
Keep essential medication and approved devices with you rather than in checked baggage, wherever airline and security rules allow.
Service Animals
Requirements vary by airline, country of origin, and Mexican animal-entry regulations. Ask your airline well before departure about the Mexican health and vaccination records required, identification or training documentation, carrier, harness or leash requirements, where the animal travels aboard the aircraft, relief-area availability, and what you will need to return home.
Inside the Terminal
SJD holds Level 1 Accessibility Enhancement Accreditation from Airports Council International for the 2024–2027 period. Accessibility features provided across GAP-operated airports include the following.
Accessible Parking
Designated spaces are available for people with disabilities. GAP reports that 4% of its airport parking spaces are reserved for passengers and visitors with disabilities, with appropriate signage and dimensions. Availability cannot be guaranteed — follow posted signs and display any required disability permit or identification. View SJD Parking Information
Accessible Restrooms
Restroom areas include adapted facilities, and some carry tactile or Braille signage. Ask at an airport information desk if you need help finding the nearest one.
Ramps and Elevators
Ramps, elevators and escalators connect levels and public areas throughout the airport. If you cannot use stairs or travel long distances, still arrange personal assistance with your airline before you arrive.
Security Screening
Tell security personnel about any assistance or alternative screening you need before screening begins — including implants, medications, and mobility devices. Keep medication in properly labeled packaging where possible, and carry supporting documentation when appropriate. Ask your airline before traveling with liquid medication, needles, medical equipment, batteries, oxygen, or other regulated items.
Getting To and From the Airport
Taxis and Shuttles
Accessibility varies between providers. Do not assume that any given taxi, shuttle, rental vehicle or rideshare is wheelchair accessible. If you need an accessible vehicle, a ramp or lift, extra space, or help transferring, book before you arrive in Los Cabos and confirm:
- Whether the vehicle takes your wheelchair without folding it
- Whether a ramp or mechanical lift is fitted
- The combined dimensions and weight of passenger and mobility device
- Whether the driver can help with transfers
- Space for luggage, medical equipment and companions
- The exact meeting point at the airport
- That the return trip to SJD is accessible too

Rental Vehicles
Some agencies can arrange adapted vehicles or additional assistance, but availability varies. Contact the rental company directly about hand controls, transfer needs, vehicle dimensions, and accessible shuttle arrangements. View SJD Rental Car Companies

Accessibility Questions
How do I request a wheelchair at SJD Airport?
Ask your airline to schedule it before you travel — the airport does not take wheelchair bookings. Confirm the request before departure, then identify yourself at the airline’s check-in counter when you arrive.
Can I use my own wheelchair or scooter through the terminal?
Usually, but it depends on your airline and aircraft. Give the airline the device’s dimensions, weight, battery type and handling needs in advance, and ask where it must be checked and whether it can be returned to you at the aircraft door.
Does GAP BLUE replace the wheelchair assistance from my airline?
No. GAP BLUE complements airport, airline and government services. Anything tied directly to your flight — wheelchair service included — still has to be arranged through the airline.
Is support available for a non-visible disability?
Yes. GAP BLUE supports passengers with both visible and non-visible disabilities. Contact the programme before you travel and describe what would make the airport easier to manage.
Is TSA Cares available at SJD?
No. TSA Cares is run by the U.S. Transportation Security Administration, which does not screen passengers at SJD. You can still use TSA Cares at participating U.S. airports for the American leg of your trip.
Are accessible taxis and shuttles always available at SJD?
No, not every vehicle is wheelchair accessible. Reserve in advance and have the provider confirm the ramp or lift, interior space, weight limits, meeting point, and that the vehicle suits your specific mobility device.
Can I travel through SJD with a service animal?
Yes, subject to your airline’s policies and Mexican animal-entry requirements. Contact the airline well before departure and check the documentation needed both to enter Mexico and to return home.
What if my accessibility needs change before I fly?
Tell your airline straight away for anything related to your flight. For general airport guidance or GAP BLUE support, contact GAP or speak with an airport information representative.
